Urethane Castings are perfect for creating "production looking" parts that also maintain the same properties of production parts. These rapid manufactured parts, albiet in smaller quantities, can typically be created in a shorter timeframe than traditional aluminum prototype tooling and injection molding.

Each rubber mold yields (a guaranteed) 25 castings. These castings can be produced in a specific texture, PMS color and mimic nearly any production grade thermoplastics, as well as, nearly any durometer (Shore A thru D).

Urethane casted parts can be produced in clear, can be painted, plated and used just as you would any production part. They are a perfect solution to launching a brand new product prior to actual hard tooling, or as a an extremely limited production part. Ideal for field studies, marketing campaigns, meetings or trade shows.

From quantity 1 through 100+ units, Urethane castings can be produced in nearly any size. They "are" Rapid Manufactured parts. Depending on complexity and parts size, leadtimes are typically 7 to 24 days.

  • Production quality parts, color matched and created with materials that simulate production thermoplastics.

  • Parts are typically produced in quantities up to 25 units, for larger manufactured quantities multiple molds are created.

  • Parts can be less expensive than 3D printing and DDM when ordered in large enough quantities, that in turn, help amotorize the mold.

  • Soft Elastomer and rubber parts available in most Shore A durmeters, as well as, packaging grade silicones.

  • Great in lieu of traditional production tooling for, low production quantities & designs still under development.

  • Typical Lead-times are 14 to 21 days.

  • Urethane Castings can be produced in virtually any size.

  • The mold is created using a pattern from a finished, sanded and primed SLA or Polyjet. This pattern includes shrink to compensate for the final casted material.

  • At this point a texture may also be added if desired for the final output.

  • Variable wall thickness & material set times can alter dimensions, so great care is spent in producing the most accurate urethane castings possible.

  • +/- 0.005" is typical for the first 3" with +/- 0.001" inch per inch thereafter.

Two part urethanes can mimic nearly an material in any durometer available today. Parts can be cast with texture or even a matched Pantone color (painted for metallics). Clear and even silicone rubber parts are available. Call a C.ideas project manager at 847-639-1000 to discuss your needs.

  • More durable and accurate elastomer parts which can be closely matched to a durometer, as well as, produced in real silicone. Higher heat deflection rigid materials with available textures and cast in colors.

  • Castings instead of FDM
  • Less expensive when creating large housings in quantities greater than 5 sets. Production surfaces, cast in color and textures, improved strength in tabs and features that benefit from being molded solid.

  • Castings instead SLS/LS
  • Better surface quality, more accurate flat parts, cast in colors, more material selections available.

  • Castings can be produced in nearly any texture, including polished smooth. Texture can hide most minor imperfections.

  • Clear is available, as well as, clear parts tinted in various colors. Bead blasting offers a frosted finish for semi- transcluscent parts.

  • Painting; Castings can be, primed, sanded and painted to match a color chip, specific Pantone colors or metalflake.

  • Shielding; Parts can be sprayed with an EMI shield or static dissipative coating.

  • Available metal coatings; vacuum metallizing, painted chrome (with different tints available) & electroplating in nickle, polished or unpolished. Call if a custom metal "look is required".
